The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Crypto Task Force has announced a major roundtable to be held on May 12 at SEC headquarters in Washington, D.C. Additionally, the event will bring together leaders from traditional finance giants to discuss the collaboration of traditional finance with decentralized finance through asset tokenization.
BlackRock And Fidelity Executives To Partake In SEC’s Crypto Roundtable
As per the SEC press release, the SEC has brought together an impressive roster of participants. Additionally, this includes executives from leading traditional financial institutions and blockchain companies. The event will feature two main panel discussions focusing on different aspects of asset tokenization.
The first panel, “Evolution of Finance: Capital Markets 2.0,” will be moderated by Jeff Dinwoodie of Cravath and includes prominent executives from major financial firms. Robert Mitchnick will represent BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager. Additionally, BlackRock and Strategy have been in a competition to acquire BTC. As per the latest details, Strategy purchased 1,895 Bitcoin for $180 million.
Cynthia Lo Bessette will participate on behalf of Fidelity. In addition, Eun Ah Choi will represent Nasdaq. Other panelists in this session include representatives from Invesco, Franklin Templeton, Apollo Management, the Tokenized Asset Coalition, DTCC, and SuperState.
SEC To Host Another Crypto Roundtable
Commissioner Hester M. Peirce, who leads the SEC’s Crypto Task Force, expressed anticipation for the upcoming discussion. She noted that “tokenization is a technological development that could substantially change many aspects of our financial markets.” The commissioner emphasized her interest in hearing panelists’ perspectives on how the SEC should approach this evolving area.
The May 12 event is the third in a series of four roundtables on crypto asset regulation announced by the commission in March. The final roundtable is initially scheduled for June 6 and titled “DeFi and the American Spirit.” The SEC has indicated that all previous registrations have been transferred to the new date.
The tokenization roundtable will run from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and will be accessible to the public both in person and via webcast on the SEC’s website. In-person attendees must register in advance, while online viewers can access the livestream directly through the SEC’s website on the day of the event.
The session will begin with opening remarks from Richard B. Gabbert, Chief of Staff of the Crypto Task Force, followed by a keynote address from SEC Chairman Paul S. Atkins. Additional commissioners, including Caroline A. Crenshaw, Mark T. Uyeda, and Hester M. Peirce, will also deliver remarks to set the stage for the panel discussions. The Commission established the Crypto Task Force on January 21 under then-Acting Chairman Mark T. Uyeda.
The announcement from the SEC comes amidst rising filings for crypto ETFs. In one of the recent updates, VanEck filed an S1 form with the commission for a BNB ETF.
