India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.30%

Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Technology, Oil & Gas and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.30% to hit a new 3-months low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.27%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which rose 3.78% or 23.70 points to trade at 651.05 at the close. Meanwhile, Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM) added 2.80% or 129.00 points to end at 4,733.00 and Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) was up 2.34% or 3.23 points to 141.21 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS), which fell 3.05% or 126.40 points to trade at 4,019.50 at the close. Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) declined 3.02% or 9.00 points to end at 289.20 and Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) was down 2.85% or 53.10 points to 1,811.45.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which rose 2.39% to 141.30, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was up 1.46% to settle at 2,423.85 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which gained 1.42% to close at 2,848.55.

The worst performers were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was down 3.07% to 4,018.85 in late trade, Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which lost 2.62% to settle at 1,815.25 and Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which was down 2.12% to 554.00 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1608 to 890 and 162 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2373 fell and 1539 advanced, while 124 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 3.52% to 15.30.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.96% or 24.80 to $2,594.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.78% or 0.52 to hit $67.44 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.80% or 0.57 to trade at $71.61 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.08% to 84.41, while EUR/INR rose 0.08% to 89.04.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 106.62.
